Fun facts about The Prickly Pear Cactus are the green pads of the plant are its branches, and its needles (the thorns) are the leaves. It blooms in several colors, either yellow, red, or purple flowers and produces a fruit. The pads (nopales) are a vegetable and have been cooked and eaten for hundreds of years in the Southwest, Texas and Mexico! The fruit is called the (tuna) and is cooked and eaten too and makes fantastic jelly!
