The calf is part of a herd belonging to the Stasney Cook Ranch. As I was photographing the herd I noticed him in the crowd and loved his beautiful markings. He was very shy and the son of a very protective mother. I attempted several times to maneuver into position for a photo and finally another cow moved away and there he was, standing in this pose shocked to see me and ready to bolt. Our eyes met and he looked intently at me as I slowly moved my camera to frame the shot. One click was all there was at which time he spun around and was back under momma in a flash.
